Road Safety

The Local Government Road Safety Program represents a collaborative approach for achieving road safety in NSW. Initiated in 1992, the program aims to involve local government and local communities in road safety planning and activities in order to contribute to the statewide goal of reducing the incidence and severity of crashes.

In September 2001 Tumbarumba Shire Council appointed a shared Road Safety Officer in conjunction with Tumut and Gundagai Councils. The Road Safety Officer collects data such as road safety statistics, assists in the localisation of statewide road safety campaigns, works with the community and other key road safety stakeholders to develop local road safety campaigns, and assists the Police in publicising local enforcement operations.

The Road Safety Officer divides his time between Tumbarumba, Tumut, and Gundagai Councils and can be contacted by email at or phone on 0427 470 535.
