Animals & Pets

Council regulates an animal control service under the Companion Animal Act 1998 and the Impounding Act 1993.

Duties carried out by this service include:

Animal Pound
Stock Control Service
An animal complaint service

Dogs must be registered by the time the animal is 6 months old. Any dog that is in a public place must be under the effective control of its owner by the means of an adequate chain, cord, or leash.
